How to Calculate Your Pay Increase

There are two ways you might need to use a Salary Increase Calculator depending on what information you already have.

  • You know your raise percentage: If your boss gives you a 5% raise, convert the percentage to a decimal (0.05). Multiply your current salary by 0.05 to find your raise amount. Add that to your current salary.
  • You know your new salary: If you switched jobs and went from $50k to $60k, subtract the old from the new to find the raise ($10k). Divide the raise ($10k) by your old salary ($50k) to get 0.20, which is a 20% increase!

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this work for hourly pay? +
Yes! You can enter your hourly wage (e.g., $20) instead of an annual salary. The math works exactly the same whether it's an annual salary, weekly paycheck, or hourly rate.
Is my raise taxed differently? +
Your raise is taxed at your normal marginal income tax rate. It is not taxed as a "bonus" (which sometimes has a higher withholding rate). However, if your raise pushes you into a higher tax bracket, only the amount of money inside that new bracket is taxed at the higher rate.
